Feb 21, 2021 at 4:30-6pm: Black, Brown, and Blended Families
REGISTER FOR THIS EVENT HERE
This month’s Voices at the Table will explore Black, Brown, and Blended Families, as co-moderated by Sandra Organ Solis and Marissa Fehler. Various families from our Hays county communities will share their experiences as families of color, and ways they see moving forward.
PREPARATION FOR THE TABLE
We invite you to prepare for our conversation by reading the essay, The Purpose of a House on our Session Reference Material page, and by watching two videos posted below. The first video is the story of a Black parent in San Marcos, and the second, is a short but remarkable video made by a Wimberley student. These reference points will set the tone for our discourse with the families of our community.
VIDEO ONE (5 mins) This is an excerpt from the interview of Jonafa Banbury, San Marcos pastor, mother, and secretary at the Dunbar Heritage Association, in which she speaks about her son’s experiences in San Marcos schools.
VIDEO TWO (14 mins) This is a brilliant video produced from interviews by Zorah Schwalb-Stang, a Wimberley student, called Don’t Let the Sun Set on You: The History of Black People and Racism in Wimberley, Texas.
(WARNING: YOU WILL HEAR RACIAL SLURS USED IN THIS VIDEO)
See you Sunday, Feb. 21!
AND, Yes! you need to register for this event, even if you did for the first one. (It’s how we’re set up with Zoom.) HERE
